The Amway China Leadership Seminar held during January bought 8,000 delegates to Sydney creating an all-time record occupancy rate for January for Sydney hotels of 82.1%
It also proved an early test for the newly opened International Convention Centre with ICC Sydney CEO Geoff Donaghy saying “We have had great feedback from the organisers who were thrilled with our ability to support a range of event types within the overall program”.
The ICC Sydney is the focal point of the Darling Harbour Precinct with its striking contemporary design, use of leading technology (one of Australia’s largest solar arrays within a central business district is being erected on the roof) and multipurpose spaces.
It has a total exhibition capacity of 35,000sqm and 8,000sqm of total meeting room space across 70 rooms – plenty of space for everybody.
The main function area boasts Australia’s largest ballroom capable of hosting 2,000 in banquet mode and more than 3,500 in cocktail mode. World’s best practice technology includes high bandwidth, venue wide wireless connectivity and HD digital signage.
An open air event deck covering 5,000sqm includes a 1,000sqm lounge and bar area providing fabulous views of the city skyline, local parkland and waterfront precinct.
Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour with 590 guest rooms is situated next to the Convention Centre and is due to open in November. The property combines its “French elegance with local culture” and will feature the Atelier by Sofitel restaurant, inspired by a French rotisserie and grill, and a champagne bar with views of the city skyline.
